A Letter From the Research Track Director
Dear Residency Research Track Candidate,
Welcome to UAB! We are proud to offer a dedicated track for research-oriented residents that is designed to train our next generation of physician-scientists in psychiatry. We have created an innovative program, the Supporting Training for Emerging Physician-scientists in Psychiatry (STEPP) program, which integrates a research training component within our general psychiatry residency training program.
With over 80 state-of-the-art scientific core facilities, 26 university-wide, interdisciplinary Research Centers, and a dedicated Physician-Scientist Career Development Office our program offers a wide variety of research training experiences. Our faculty consists of a diverse group of scientists that has been selected based on academic excellence, mentoring experience, and commitment to resident research.
Our trainees are devoted to learning the necessary skills to prepare them for the future integration of scientific breakthroughs into clinical practice. The key components of the STEPP program include personalized career development through individual and team-based mentoring, a tailored didactic curriculum and practical career guidance, and rigorous, hands-on research training in basic, clinical, or translational research focused on a broad spectrum of psychiatric disorders.
We are committed to helping our research-oriented residents reach their potential as physician, scientist and future leader in the field and are looking for applicants who are motivated, diverse, enthusiastic, and eager to learn. We invite you to explore our website and learn more about the STEPP program, its structure, and the mentorship options offered here at UAB!
Warmly,
Adrienne Lahti, M.D.
