The UAB School of Optometry proudly welcomes Lynn Greenspan, OD, PhD, FAAO, Dipl. PH/EV, FNAP, as a professor, bringing a wealth of experience in clinical care, research and education.
Dr. Greenspan earned her Bachelor of Arts in biology from the State University of New York at Albany, her Doctor of Optometry from the SUNY College of Optometry and her PhD from Salus University. She also completed a residency in low vision and rehabilitation at the Northport VA Medical Center in Long Island, New York.
She joins UAB from Salus University’s Pennsylvania College of Optometry, where she served as an associate professor and clinical specialist in low vision and vision rehabilitation. At Salus, she taught courses in optics, ocular motility and visual perception, and directed the vision clinic at Bryn Mawr Rehabilitation Hospital, focusing on neuro-visual rehabilitation for patients with acquired and traumatic brain injuries.
A diplomate of the American Academy of Optometry in the Public Health/Environmental Vision section and a fellow of the National Academies of Practice, her areas of expertise include optics, vision science and perception, eye movements and clinical care for neurological conditions.
Dr. Greenspan looks forward to contributing to UAB’s thriving academic environment through teaching and research.
“I love to learn, and I love being in a school setting,” she said. “Teaching allows me to share insights from years of experience while learning from students’ fresh perspectives. Their questions inspire me to keep growing.”
Her research aims to provide evidence-based vision examination and treatment techniques for stroke and brain injury patients, including the use of portable and remote devices. She aspires to bring optometry into rehabilitation hospitals across the country within an evidence-based paradigm.
Dr. Greenspan is excited to join a community where faculty, researchers and students are engaged and supported, and where infrastructure and resources enable meaningful scientific contributions.
Please join us in welcoming Dr. Greenspan to the UAB School of Optometry.
