Mintie Keiser has been honored with the Dean’s Distinguished Service Award for staff, presented by Dean Kelly Nichols. The award recognizes individuals whose exceptional service, dedication and leadership make a meaningful difference in advancing the mission and success of the UAB School of Optometry.
“I am honored to receive the Dean’s Distinguished Service Award,” Keiser said. “I enjoy working with faculty, staff and students, supporting everyone however I can. It’s rewarding to work with our school and clinic teams, and I’m grateful to be part of this community. Working at the School of Optometry is truly a pleasure.”
Known for her remarkable work ethic and willingness to do whatever is needed for the good of the team, Keiser has spent nearly two decades serving the school and its patients. After 17 years in the clinical setting, she transitioned to the academic side of the school, where she has continued to provide invaluable support to faculty and staff. She is a trusted resource across departments.
In recent years, Keiser has once again demonstrated her flexibility and dedication by serving in multiple roles. During a period of transition, she stepped back into the Contact Lens Service to provide support when her expertise was most needed, balancing those responsibilities while continuing her existing responsibilities. Her willingness to answer the call and contribute wherever necessary reflects the very spirit of service this award celebrates.
Keiser’s impact was also recognized earlier this year when she was named the inaugural recipient of the Focused on Excellence Award. Established by the Awards and Recognition Committee and selected by faculty, staff and students, the award recognizes nonfaculty employees whose work and service reflect the shared values of UAB and the UAB School of Optometry.
The Dean’s Distinguished Service Award for staff is a fitting recognition of Keiser’s contributions to the school. Through decades of service and a career defined by excellence, she has helped strengthen the UAB School of Optometry community and set a remarkable example for others to follow.
