You may be able to participate in this study if you: are 18 years of age or older, have been diagnosed with major depressive disorder, MDD, have not adequately responded to at least 1 different antidepressant treatment, and are currently on an antidepressant treatment. If you’re being treated for MDD and your current antidepressant medication(s) is not working, the SAVITRI Study might interest you. The SAVITRI Study is researching a potential MDD therapy to improve symptoms of depression, and you may be able to participate. This research study is now enrolling adults diagnosed with MDD. Those who qualify will receive the investigational medication (or placebo), study-specific medical exams, and study-specific laboratory tests at no cost. Participants in the SAVITRI Study must: be 18 to 65 years of age; have a clinical diagnosis of MDD; be currently on antidepressant medication(s); have had inadequate response to up to 5 oral antidepressant medications; and fulfill other eligibility criteria. You may be eligible to participate in a research study about the effects of Exercise and Metoprolol (a blood pressure pill) on a protein in your blood. This protein is related to heart disease. Eligible participants must be Healthy men and women, African American or Caucasians, and have no history of diabetes, heart problems, or kidney problems. The study involves performing the exercise, taking metoprolol, consuming prepared meals, and collecting blood samples. Participants will be compensated $350 for completing the study visits. The Alabama Vaccine Research Clinic is conducting a COVID-19 Vaccine Research Trial Located at UAB’s 1917 Clinic at Dewberry on 5th Ave, the Alabama Vaccine Research Clinic is studying novel COVID-19 vaccines and how they can offer a broader range of protection against new variants. To qualify for this study you must be a generally healthy adult, 18 years or older, and have received a FULL series of COVID-19 Vaccination and a booster vaccination. Participation in this study will include 8-13 clinic visits. Study participants will receive COVID-19 variant vaccines. Compensation will be provided. Do you have High Blood Pressure? Help us find out what is the right time to take blood pressure medication. You may be eligible to participate in the PRECISION-BP research study about the effects of Sacubitril/Valsartan or Valsartan on your body’s 24-hour rhythm of a hormone in your blood called natriuretic peptides. This hormone and the study medications are related to the heart. Eligible participants must be obese (BMI: 30-45 kg/m2) men and women, have high blood pressure and have no history of heart problems or kidney problems. The study involves wearing a blood pressure monitor for 24-hours, 24-hour inpatient visits, taking medications, and collecting blood and urine samples. Meals will be provided at no cost. Healthy volunteers between the ages of 14 and 45 needed for research on psychosis spectrum disorders. Study procedures include: three MRI scan visits and two office visits over the course of 16 weeks, a clinical interview, memory, thinking, and concentration evaluations, and optional blood draws. Are you currently pregnant? If you are 14 to 39 years of age, less than 18 weeks pregnant, and planning to deliver at UAB, you may be eligible for our education based study. This study focuses on learning about healthy behaviors and how to make positive changes that could lead to a healthier pregnancy for both you and your baby. There are four study visits spread out over 13 weeks during pregnancy and one brief post-delivery visit where study staff visit participants in the post-partum unit. Participation includes a one-on-one education session, answering several questionnaires, and collecting lab work, including blood, mouth swabs & self-collected urine samples, and vaginal swabs. Also, three times during the study, participants are given a packet to collect two swabs at home and mail them in. Participants are compensated $230 for completing all study visits and specimens. Researchers in the UAB School of Medicine are recruiting individuals 18 years and older who have drank alcohol in the past year. The study involves completing a brief online screening questionnaire to determine your eligibility. You may be eligible to participate in a research study: If you are a healthy female, between age of 18-50, still having a regular menstrual cycle & you are NOT on hormonal birth control (birth control pills or shots (i.e. Depo shot) or IUD, like Mirena).
