You can schedule an appointment to meet with a UAB Career center team member. Log into Handshake and select the "Career Center" tab. Then click the "Appointments" box to get started.
Walk-In/Drop-In
The UAB Career Center offers a virtual “walk-in/drop-in” service available to UAB students without an appointment. The virtual walk-in/drop-in hours are Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. on a first come, first served basis. Click the yellow box below to access the walk-in/drop-in service via Zoom.
Cancellation and No-Show Policy
for Scheduled Appointments
If you need to reschedule or cancel your appointment, please notify our office 24 hours in advance. This allows our staff to offer your appointment time to another student, who is in need of our services. Failure to cancel your appointment within 24 hours, more than once, will result in losing your appointment privileges for the semester; however, you may still utilize our drop-in services.

UAB Career Center is excited to announce the launch of Big Interview, a cutting-edge interview practice platform. Big Interview is designed to help faculty, staff, and students improve their interview techniques through training and practice. This platform replaces our previous system, InterviewStream.
How to Register
- Request Admin Access by emailing Cynthia Marie Washington at cmw2@uab.edu.
- Respond to the email confirmation. Click "Access Big Interview."
- Visit UAB Big Interview. You will be redirected to the UAB Central Authentication System to sign in.
For Faculty: Integrating Big Interview into Your Classes
Faculty members can seamlessly integrate Big Interview into their curriculum. Here is how:
- Assignments: Create assignments that require students to practice interviews on the platform.
- Monitor Progress: Utilize features for tracking student activity and performance.
- Technical Requirements: Ensure students have the necessary equipment and internet connectivity.
- Introductory Sessions: Provide tutorials for students to familiarize themselves with Big Interview.

- Big Interview University: Training for faculty users, admins, and organization admins.

These digital badges/credentials are issued by the UAB Career Center within Canvas. Because you are automatically enrolled in our course, you are automatically subscribed to earn these badges. You may need to sign into your Canvas account and select “Credentials” (located in Canvas left-handed menu) to access any badges you have been awarded. Beta
“Beta” is a term to describe specific, insider information about a hike. In most cases, this information is given by someone who has completed the hike. Good “beta” or information is also given by talking with local residents or message boards. This badge is awarded at the completion of the Networking Module.
Explorer
UAB Career Center defines an “Explorer” as a hiker who is exploring “trails” to determine a career path. This badge is awarded at the completion of the Self & Career Exploration module.
Guide
The term “Guide” is a shortened term for “Trail Guide” which is a person or more commonly, a resource with useful information to plan a hike. This badge is awarded at the completion of the Interview Skills module.
Hiker
UAB Career Center defines a “Hiker” as a UAB student who is engaged in the UAB Career Center Canvas Course. This badge is awarded at the completion of the Introduction to the Career Center module.
Journey
UAB Career Center defines “Journey” as the experience of learning various strategies in the job search process. This badge is awarded at the completion of the Career Launch module.
Scout
UAB Career Center defines “Scout” as a person with specific knowledge and/or skills of a topic or area who may lead others. This badge is awarded at the completion of the Career Planning and Gaining Experience module.
Summit
The term “Summit” is generally referred to as the highest peak or point of a mountain. This badge is awarded for the completion of the Professional Brand module
Trailblazer
A trailblazer is a term to define someone who makes a new track through a wild country. Trailblazers mark their trail with “blazes” or small notches in trees. This badge is awarded at the completion of the Resume Building module.

Hike Your Own Hike (HYOH)
Awarded at the completion of any six modules.
Thru-Hiker
The term “Thru-Hiker” is given to a person in the process of hiking a trail from end-to-end. This badge is awarded upon the completion of the eight original Career Center Canvas Course modules: Introduction to the Career Center, Self & Career Exploration, Career Planning and Gaining Experience, Resume Building, Interview Skills Career Launch, Networking, and Professional Brand.
Triple Crown
Like the definition of a “Thru-Hiker”, which is the term given to someone in the process of completing a “thru-hike.” The term “Triple Crown” is the crowning achievement of hiking the Appalachian, Pacific Crest, and Continental Divide Trails. This badge is awarded at the completion of the Resume, Interview, and one other module.
You can use these digital badges to promote your module completion on professional/career social media platforms, such as LinkedIn or Handshake. Potential employers who visit your LinkedIn or Handshake profile can learn about your achievements in the UAB Career Center Canvas Course.
