Paulette Evans, Ph.D., has taught a combination of general, advanced, and Advanced Placement biology at Minor High School, an exurban school within the Jefferson County School District (Alabama). In addition, Paulette served as an adjunct instructor at Bevill State Community College where she instructed students in introductory biology and anatomy and physiology.

During her tenure with Jefferson County Schools, Paulette served as facilitator of Minor High School's Continuous Improvement Leadership Team, the Science Olympiad Coach, and the senior class sponsor. In 2010, she began work as a contract instructor with A+ College Ready. Through this work, Paulette travels throughout the state of Alabama, on weekends, preparing students for the College Board Advanced Placement Biology exam. In 2016, Paulette was in a select group of A+ College Ready biology teachers chosen to become a National Science and Mathematics Initiative (NMSI) Laying the Foundation (LTF) teacher trainer, and now travels the state and nation preparing advanced and Advanced Placement students and teachers.

Paulette Evans currently serves as a Clinical Instructor and Director of UABTeach at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. UABTeach is a replication site of the UTeach program established by the University of Texas Austin. The program specializes in preparing secondary STEM educators and prioritizes constructivist inquiry approaches to teaching mathematics and science. Since joining UABTeach, in 2014, Paulette has had the pleasure of presenting several session on innovative practices happening at UABTeach as well as judging the UTeach National Conference Poster session. Paulette also leads UABTeach professional development sessions for STEM teachers in the Birmingham area.

Paulette calls UAB home. As an undergraduate, she was inducted as a member of the Iota Lambda chapter (UAB) of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Incorporated. During her Master's study at UAB, she received the 2006 Joyce Sibley Scholarship as well as being in the first cohort of the Urban Teacher Enhancement Program (UTEP). In 2011, Paulette received the UAB Outstanding Secondary Educational Specialist Student award. And in 2019, Paulette received the Outstanding Doctoral Student Award in Educational Studies in Diverse Populations program.

Paulette is passionate about critical science and mathematics teaching. Her work focuses heavily on the application of critical theories and pedagogies to the teaching of math and science, as well as the recruitment and retention of African Americans in the field of STEM education. The goal is to, through STEM teaching and learning, empower educators and students to act against inequities and systems of oppression.

When she's not teaching, Paulette enjoys spending time with family and friends, and traveling.
