Preparing the Next Generation of Math and Science Teachers

One Major. Multiple Career Options.

UABTeach is all about options. The option to major in science, math, or engineering. The option to teach or pursue a career or graduate school in your major area. You even have the option of taking the first two classes for free to see if teaching and the UABTeach program is a good fit for you.

Students who complete the UABTeach program receive a bachelor's degree in their field — math, science, or engineering — and have the option of earning teacher certification. And if you start your coursework by the first semester of your junior year, you should be able to finish without adding extra semesters.

Taking the First Step

The first course (Step 1: Inquiry Approaches to Teaching) is open to all mathematics and science majors in the College of Arts and Sciences, as well as engineering and biomedical science students and all Liberal Arts and Pre-Health undecided students. In it you can try out teaching with no obligation to continue in the program. And it's free if you successfully complete the course.
