""Dee Dee Hicks-Stewart is a native of Birmingham, Alabama. She is a graduate student in the Anthropology of Peace and Human Rights Master’s program. Prior to coming to UAB, she earned a degree in Political Science from Alabama A&M University in 1995.

What drew Dee Dee to this Anthropology of Peace and Human Rights program is her experience working in the school system for 14 years and wanting to help those students who suffer from sexual orientation discrimination. Dee Dee has conducted HIV/AIDS and STI awareness drives within her school to make sure students are knowledgeable about these topics. She is interested in finding ways to help students have a voice in the community and to be aware of their rights as young adults.
