About the Program

Interested in treating the health and well-being of individuals and communities facing local and global health issues? Our coordinated MPH/MD program can give you the clinical skills and science experience you need to make the sustainable, long-term improvements necessary to overcome health and wellness challenges facing our communities today.

Because this degree is offered in conjunction with the UAB Heersink School of Medicine, you must first be admitted to the UAB Heersink School of Medicine before applying to the School of Public Health program. Next, you’ll choose between two different program formats at the School of Medicine. Then, as a student in the MPH/MD program, you’ll receive a foundation in Public Health that’s centered around an evidence-based public health model. Your MPH courses can be taken online, and 12 credit hours will be shared with your MD program to help you complete your degree in a timely manner. To learn more about the MD program, visit the UAB Heersink School of Medicine website.
