Mia GeisingerMia L. Geisinger, D.D.S., M.S., professor and chair of the Department of Periodontology at the UAB School of Dentistry, has been elected to serve as Representative to the IADR/AADOCR Publications Committee. Her term will begin following the AADOCR Annual Meeting and IADR General Session in March 2026 in San Diego.

This appointment continues Geisinger’s service to the dental profession at the national and international levels. At UAB, she leads the Department of Periodontology and directs the Advanced Education program in Periodontology, having previously guided predoctoral education, clinical research, faculty development, media relations, and curricular review. She has mentored more than thirty-five postdoctoral students seeking master’s degrees, five PhD candidates, three postdoctoral fellows, and over fifty pre- and post-doctoral students conducting research.

Geisinger’s leadership extends across major professional organizations. She is Immediate Past President of the American Academy of Periodontology and has served as President of the American Academy of Periodontology Foundation. Her service includes chairing the ADA Council on Scientific Affairs, serving on the ADA Science and Research Institute Board of Directors, and contributing as a Trustee and Officer of the American Academy of Periodontology. She is also active within AADOCR and IADR, including leadership roles in the Women in Science Network and the Periodontal Research Group.

Since joining UAB SOD in 2008, Geisinger has authored more than 80 peer-reviewed publications and presented over thirty-five abstracts at AADOCR and IADR meetings. Her commitment to advancing research, diversity, and academic development has shaped symposia and initiatives focused on mentorship and inclusion.

Geisinger’s election as AADOCR Publications Committee Representative reflects her ongoing dedication to advancing dental research, education, and professional service on a global scale.
