For Dr. Ben and Mallory Samuelson, life has always been about building something meaningful—whether in their family, their community, or their professional endeavors. Rooted in a shared commitment to service and excellence, they’ve dedicated themselves to making a positive impact, both in their orthodontic practice and in the neighborhood they call home.

Mallory graduated from the University of Alabama with a degree in operations and supply chain management, while Ben earned his Bachelor of Science from Auburn University and went on to complete his Doctor of Dental Medicine degree at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. He later pursued an orthodontic residency and a master’s in dental sciences at UAB, where he now serves as a guest lecturer, mentoring the next generation of doctors.
In 2017, just after getting married, Ben and Mallory moved to Ross Bridge, ready to plant roots in a community they loved. That same year, Ben purchased his orthodontic practice in Hoover, Samuelson Orthodontics, where he has spent years helping local families achieve their best smiles.
Growing a Practice, Growing a Community
Samuelson Orthodontics first opened in an office suite nestled in the heart of Hoover, and while it was a great place to start, the practice quickly outgrew the space. As more patients came through the doors, it became clear that they needed a location that could better serve the growing demand.
Samuelson Orthodontics OfficeIn 2023, after years of planning, the practice moved to a brand-new, custom-built office in The Grove shopping center—a space designed to reflect Ben’s vision and values.
“We wanted this to feel like a community-centered practice,” Ben explains. “The office is a reflection of the neighborhood we call home and the people we consider our neighbors.”
The new space was designed with patient experience in mind. The moment visitors arrive, they’re greeted by outdoor speakers playing upbeat, family-friendly music. Inside, modern furnishings and an open floor plan create an inviting atmosphere that feels far from a typical orthodontic office.
Beyond aesthetics, accessibility was also a top priority. Living just minutes from his practice, Ben prides himself on being there for patients, even in emergencies. Whether it’s after-hours care or a last-minute adjustment before a big event, he always makes time to ensure his patients are taken care of.
A Culture Built on Core Values
From the beginning, Ben envisioned a practice that blended structure and efficiency with a focus on warmth and personal touch. To make that a reality, he built a team that shares his passion for excellence, service, and continuous improvement.
At the heart of this mission is the Vision Team, a group dedicated to maintaining and evolving the practice’s high standards. Each quarter, the entire staff gathers to discuss feedback, share new ideas, and ensure they’re always moving forward.
Guiding these conversations are five core values that shape every decision at Samuelson Orthodontics:
- Integrity
- Development
- Excellence
- Accountability
- Service
These principles not only guide the practice internally but also extend into the broader community—where giving back is a central part of the Samuelson philosophy.
Leaving a Legacy Through Service
For Ben, orthodontics isn’t just about straightening teeth—it’s about creating confidence, supporting families, and making a lasting impact. That commitment to service extends far beyond his practice.
Dr. Samuelson's Train ProjectOne of his proudest contributions is the Train Project, a labor of love that brought together his passion for woodworking and community enrichment. After a beloved wooden train structure at a local park fell into disrepair, Ben took it upon himself to build a new one. Working in his home woodshop with his father, he constructed a full train set—complete with an engine, four cargo cars, and a caboose—which now serves as a cherished play area for local children.
But his community involvement doesn’t stop there. Samuelson Orthodontics actively supports local schools by donating carpool tags, report card covers, calendar magnets, and bottled water for orientations. They also sponsor student fundraisers, athletic programs, and school events.
One of their most meaningful initiatives is their annual scholarship program, which awards scholarships to local students who demonstrate a commitment to community service. This year, they proudly awarded eight scholarships based on essays detailing the students' impact in their communities.
“We believe in supporting kids beyond just their smiles,” Ben says. “Education and community involvement go hand in hand, and we want to encourage the next generation to keep giving back.”
Life Beyond the Practice
When he’s not transforming smiles, you might find Ben on the golf course, crafting wooden games in his shop, or spending time with Mallory and their son, Beckett.
At just 2 years old, Beckett already has a big personality. He loves cars, basketball, and soccer, and his goofy, infectious energy brings joy to everyone he meets. His arrival was a defining moment for Ben and Mallory, deepening their appreciation for family and strengthening their commitment to building a legacy of kindness and service.
The Samuelsons are passionate about making the most of life in Ross Bridge, Hoover, Birmingham, and the surrounding areas. Whether it’s attending neighborhood events, participating in fun runs, or simply gathering with friends, they cherish the strong sense of community they’ve found here. They love entertaining, cheering on their favorite sports teams, and traveling whenever possible.
And for Ben, his happiness is best summed up by the family’s motto:
“Be the reason someone smiles today.”
It’s a simple sentiment, but one that perfectly captures the heart of their family and the mission of Samuelson Orthodontics. Whether he’s restoring a historic wooden train, mentoring future orthodontists, or making an after-hours house call for a patient in need, Ben Samuelson is dedicated to ensuring that the community he serves always has something to smile about.
So next time you see the Samuelsons at the Farmers Market or out in the neighborhood, be sure to say hello—and, of course, share a smile!
