Hamida Shirazy, D.M.D., FAGD, has joined UAB as assistant professor in the Department of Clinical and Community Sciences and clinical director of UAB Dentistry Dothan.
As clinical director, Shirazy provides leadership and oversight for the UAB Dentistry Dothan clinical and administrative operations, helping ensure continuity and quality of care for patients while supporting the educational experience of students and trainees.
"Dr. Shirazy brings extensive experience in private practice ownership, practice management, clinical leadership and dental education," said Gregg Gilbert, D.D.S., M.B.A., chair of the Department of Clinical and Community Sciences. "Her background and commitment to patient care make her well suited to lead the Dothan clinic as it continues to serve communities across the Wiregrass region while supporting the educational mission of the School of Dentistry. I want to thank Dr. Mazer and the members of the search committee for their thoughtful work throughout the search process that led to Dr. Shirazy’s appointment."
Born and raised in Kenya, where she still has family, Shirazy earned her Doctor of Dental Medicine degree from Temple University Kornberg School of Dentistry and completed a General Practice Residency at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City. She is a Fellow of the Academy of General Dentistry.
Shirazy spent much of her career in private practice, serving as both a practice owner and lead dentist while remaining active in dental education and community-based practice. She later transitioned to full-time clinical teaching, serving as an assistant professor of restorative dentistry at LECOM School of Dental Medicine after previously holding an adjunct faculty appointment at Temple University Kornberg School of Dentistry.

"We were especially impressed by her enthusiasm for working with students and her understanding of the important role the Dothan clinic plays in expanding access to care across the region."
Located in Alabama's Wiregrass region, UAB Dentistry Dothan provides comprehensive dental care while serving as a clinical training site for fourth-year UAB dental students. Students provide patient care under the direct supervision of faculty dentists, gaining experience in a community-based setting while helping expand access to care in the region. The clinic also supports community outreach, interprofessional collaboration and regional partnerships that advance oral health throughout the Wiregrass.
