Dr. Timothy Trulove, DMD, MS, of Montgomery, Alabama was installed as the President of the American Board of Orthodontics (ABO) on April 23, 2023 at the annual conference of the American Association of Orthodontists in Chicago. He had served as the director of the southern component of the ABO since 2016.

Over the last few years, Dr Trulove has been a tireless advocate for clinical Orthodontics and championed excellence in the delivery of orthodontic treatment. Dr. Trulove has been board certified since 1996. As an ABO director, he served with distinction on the ABO’s Clinical Examination Committee and the Policy Committee overseeing changes as the profession adapted to modern demands of patients and professionals.

"In my time at the Department of Orthodontics, I have not seen a faculty more dedicated to the quality of clinical outcomes and instilling the highest standards of orthodontic care in our residents" said Dr Chung How Kau, Chair, Department of Orthodontics, UAB. 

Dr. Trulove has been in private practice limited to orthodontics in Montgomery since 1989. In addition, he is an adjunct professor of orthodontics at the University of Alabama (UAB) School of Dentistry in Birmingham, Alabama, and is an instructor for the Charles H. Tweed Foundation. Dr. Trulove is active in many organizations. He is a past president of the SAO; the Alabama Association of Orthodontists; Angle Midwest, a component organization of the Edward H. Angle Society of Orthodontists; and the Second District Dental Society. Dr. Trulove is also a fellow of the American College of Dentists and the International College of Dentists, and is a member of the College of Diplomates of the American Board of Orthodontics. Dr. Trulove earned his dental degree from UAB and his master’s degree from the University of Iowa.

“I have had the great pleasure of serving as a faculty member in the Department of Orthodontics at UAB since 1998.  The opportunity to interact with the residents and other faculty members has had a major impact on my professional life as it served to help prepare me for my role as a Director for the American Board of Orthodontics.  I am humbled and privileged to represent UAB as a faculty member and the ABO as president” said Dr. Trulove.
