Leah Dobbs BlackI am presently serving as an Adjunct Instructor for the Graduate Degree Program for Teaching English as a Second Language at UAB. I teach Heritage Language Instruction, a course that focuses on strategies for providing opportunities for students to develop literacy and academic language in both their L1 and L2. I am also the ESL Program Supervisor for Shelby County Schools, a position I have held since 2004.

I have a BA in Spanish from Samford University, an MA in English as a Second Language and Instructional Leader Certification form the University of Alabama, and an EdS in Teacher Leader from UAB.

During over 20 years in the field of educatioon, I have served as a Spanish teacher, an ESL teacher, and ESL Program Supervisor. I have been active in several professional organizations, such as the Alabama World Languages Association (AWLA), AMTESOL, and Ala-EL, to support my colleagues in providing appropriate language instruction to second language learners.

My husband, Nathan, and I live in Alabaster with our three daughters, Gabriella, Isabella, and Ella. I enjoy singing and playing the piano.
