Master of Arts in Education in High School Education 6-12th Grade
The traditional Master of Arts in Education in High School Education (i.e., Secondary Education) program is designed for individuals who have a bachelor's degree in education, hold current Class B teacher certification, and wish to advance their career by earning a master's degree and Class A certification for grades 6-12.
Concentrations are offered in Biology, Chemistry, General Science, Mathematics, Physics, English Language Arts, General Social Science, and History.
For individuals interested in teaching a foreign language, concentrations in French and Spanish are offered. These concentrations, when completed successfully, lead to Class A teacher certification for grades P-12.
Coursework takes between 30 and 33 semester hours to complete and includes courses in measurements and evaluation, curriculum principles and practices, and dynamics of educational change as well as discipline-specific and advisor-approved elective courses. Candidates must meet all of the requirements for admission to the UAB Graduate School
Candidates must hold current Class B teaching certification in their respective subject area issued by the Alabama State Department of Education
