This research is funded through an $11-million grant from the U.S. Department of Defense.
The Department is proud to recognize PGY-1 Resident Ross Farris for providing exemplary patient care. One of his patients called the VAMC saying, “I just want someone to know the Dr. Ross Farris was the ‘best doctor I ever had in my life!’” The patient went on to say that while he was talking with Dr. Farris, he thought, “Wow, this guy really appears to care. Then I realized that he really does care.”
Tiffany Carson, PhD (Preventive Medicine) was one of ten scholars selected for the nationally competitive Summer Institute on Research in Implementation Science for Equity (RISE) Program, an effort to enhance the ability of scholars under-represented in biomedical sciences to conduct innovative research and compete successfully for NIH resources.
Karen Bernard, PhD, (Pulmonary, Allergy, and Critical Care Medicine) was selected as the recipient of the Jo Jae Wright Award from the American Thoracic Society in recognition of outstanding scientific achievement by a young investigator.
Charles Dasher MD, FACP, FACG (Gastroenterology and Hepatology) gave a presentation at the Awards Ceremony for the Department of Physics at the University of Georgia on April 23. The topic was "Physics and Medicine: The Development of Fiber Optic Gastrointestinal Endoscopy."
Five of our residents (Federico DePuy, James Oliver, Will Benton, Kevin Cowley, Rehan Naseemuddin) recently teamed up with Over the Mountain Miracle League—a baseball program that provides an opportunity for children and adults with mental and physical handicaps to play baseball. This volunteer opportunity was organized by Nicholas Hoppman and Caroline Walker of the Tinsley Harrison IM Residency Program Wellness Committee.
