As part of our strategic plan, the School of Medicine engaged its faculty and leadership to identify research focus areas that were cross-cutting, not disease or organ specific, aligned with strategic scientific priorities for federal funding, and where we can and should be nationally prominent. That strategic engagement identified five focus areas for research:
