What is HDC?
The UAB Healthy Donor Cohort (UAB HDC) is an initiative of the UAB Immunology Institute. We have built a platform that allows *investigators to request fresh blood samples from healthy adult volunteers for research purposes. These samples could be used as healthy controls matched to patient cohorts, to validate assays or to acquire preliminary data for grant applications. *Investigators need to demonstrate IRB approval from their institution (even if considered Non-Human Subjects Research) to receive de-identified human blood samples.
How does it work?
Investigators in need of healthy donors and with proper IRB approval can submit a request by completing the “HDC-Non-UAB Investigator application form” below. Following submission, the Immunology Institute staff will evaluate the request for acceptability. Following blood collection, investigators will have the option to have fresh samples delivered to their institution. They will also have the option to utilize UAB labs/CCTS SPAN for processing.
Need IRB Assistance?
If needed, our Institute staff can provide guidance on IRB protocol submissions/amendments to investigators who wish to request samples from the UAB HDC. To request IRB assistance or for questions regarding the UAB HDC, please contact the HDC study manager, Dr. Lorenzo Thompson, at lthompson@uabmc.edu.
