Diana Lin, M.D., an assistant professor in the Division of Anatomic Pathology, has been approved as an Alabama State Commissioner and Division Commissioner for the Florida Panhandle for the College of American Pathologists (CAP) Accreditation Program, effective immediately.

The CAP is a leading organization of board-certified pathologists with a goal to foster excellence in laboratories and advance the practice of pathology and laboratory medicine. Founded in 1946, the organization now boasts approximately 18,000 pathologists.

Lin will assist in implementing the CAP policies and conducting the accreditation program. These tasks include but are not limited to, assisting inspectors in the planning of inspections, serving as a resource for laboratory directors and inspectors regarding inspections, and helping in the review, evaluation, and follow-up on issues identified by the post-inspection critique. She will work with laboratories identified as having missing proficiency testing (PT) enrollment and assist in locating teams to perform short-notice inspections.

“I’m looking forward to piloting new processes, participating in the annual Commissioners Meeting, and coordinating activities with other State, Deputy, and Division Commissioners in the region,” Lin says.

Lin succeeds her CAP State Commissioner predecessor, Silvio Litovsky, M.D., Professor and Cardiovascular Section Head, Anatomic Pathology, who served in the role since 2008 before retiring from it in July 2022.

“I am very confident in Dr. Lin’s ability to take on the role of CAP State Commissioner,” Litovsky says. “She is fully committed to the improvement of quality and safety in our state’s field of pathology.”
