FAQs

  • Where can I find the department's logo?
Because we are housed under the School of Medicine, we use their logo on all of our external materials to create a cohesive brand. We do not have a logo specific to our department, but we can list "Deparment of Pathology" on the same document to identify ourselves as needed. Please consult the Communications team for approved versions of this logo.
  • Do I have to follow branding guidelines for presentations?
Yes. We believe that our branding templates for PowerPoint and other presentation materials are the best vehicles for your information. They are easily accessible here, and the department has a shared folder with Pathology-branded versions of the templates. We are always happy to work with you on a custom template as needed.
  • How can I update the website?
We appreciate your help in keeping our website up to date. Please email Christina or Hannah to send a request to update a webpage. Links and specific examples are always appreciated.
  • I need help spreading the word about a project. Can I post on the department's social media?
Please send any requests for social media promotion to  Christina or Hannah. We always welcome content suggestions from faculty and staff.

Branding Guidelines and Logo/Template Downloads

Always check your logo use with the UAB Style Guide.

Always use this logo when space allows to emphasize our brand. This logo should always appear in two colors (green and black) and should never be smaller than 120px.
  • UAB Heersink School of Medicine Logo
UAB Heersink School of Medicine Logo
    • Use this logo when communicating within the Heersink School of Medicine or with medical audiences.
    • "Department of Pathology" may appear directly below this logo. There is not a UAB Pathology logo independent of the Heersink logo with the UAB monogram component.

Communication Services

  • External Audience
External audiences include members of the media, external donors, alumni, etc. If you are creating a communications piece for external use, it is best for us to be involved so that we can ensure university and SOM branding guidelines are followed. In some cases, we can even create your document for you and save you time.

Not sure whether your document is for external use? Here are some questions that will help you decide:
    • Will audiences outside of your immediate team see this document?
    • Will you be sending this document to audiences outside of UAB?
    • Is it patient-facing or meant to be posted on a website?
    • Are students or partners going to use the document to reference departmental programs or requirements?
    • Are you using the document as a part of a presentation on behalf of UAB, the SOM, or the department?
If your answer is "yes" to any of these questions, your document is likely meant for external use and could benefit from a communications team member helping to create it.

Note: If a member of the media (i.e. news stations, radio hosts, reporters, etc.) contacts you directly, please be sure to reply to the email with a communications team member copied. You can always forward any external media requests you receive personally to us so we can coordinate with University Relations on setting up interviews.
  • Head Shots
Each faculty member should have a current head shot for use on our website and in stories and related media. Visit the UAB Headshot scheduling page to find a time to have yours taken. Once received, please send to Christina or Hannah who will update.
  • Promoting Your Messages
We want to help share your stories and successes! We have several outlets that we are always looking to update with news from the department. Here are a few examples:

    • Social Media
      • We love to share photos of our faculty and staff making a difference in the community. Send Hannah photos from your projects (be sure to obtain written permission from subjects outside of UAB) and we may share them on social media.
    • Newsletters
      • We send a monthly departmental newsletter to all Pathology faculty, staff, and partners across the state. Sharing your stories and projects with us will usually include a mention in that newsletter. We also share stories with the School of Medicine for those with relevance to the entire school.
    • Website
      • In many cases, we can update our Pathology website pages with relevant updates about program and faculty successes.
    • Website Stories
      • We aim to publish at least 1-2 stories per month in our news tab on our website. Share your updates with us and they may appear in a website news story.
  • Submit Your Communication Request
Our team is happy to help you with any of your communication needs, including news and event promotion, web edits, brand materials, and more. Please email either Christina or Hannah to submit your request and you will receive a response shortly.
