The award was named in 2021 to honor Dr. Thomas Kinney, one of the founders of APC, and a renowned pathologist and mentor. The Society of '67 Thomas D. Kinney Scholars Program provides an opportunity for residents in pathology and medical students to learn more about career opportunities in pathology and how pathology plays a critical role in healthcare, research and education. Scholars will attend the 2023 APC Annual Meeting in Chicago, IL, where they will gain insight from national leaders in academic pathology.

In addition, Stanek was recently re-selected, for her second year, to the UAB Heersink School of Medicine's Learning Community as a house staff mentor; the first resident in pathology selected since the program was established in 2017.
