Camp can be challenging, but these preseason training tips from experts with the UAB Marching Blazers can help student musicians succeed.

The “Opera in One Act,” composed by UAB Music Professor Craig Brandwein with libretto by David Sellers, features a cast of singers, and many instrumentalists, who are recent graduates of the UAB music program.

The Emmy-nominated film won 14 Telly Awards, including Gold for General: History in the Television category and Gold for Craft: Original Score in the Film & Shorts category.

The Florence native, 22, is graduating from UAB with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in musical theater, then working professionally this summer, signing with an agency and moving to New York.

Cameron Rodgers-Johnson will go on to study music composition after taking advantage of performance opportunities at UAB and graduating with high distinguished honors.

More than 3,071 students are eligible to graduate this semester, and at least 1,715 students will participate in commencement exercises.

The UAB Department of Music will host Grammy In the Schools and the John Lennon Educational Tour Bus on Wednesday, April 30, at the Alys Stephens Performing Arts Center.

Wonder and Panion, both Grammy Award winners, have collaborated musically for more than 30 years. Panion will conduct orchestras in each city for Wonder’s performances.

An accomplished performer and devoted teacher, Smith is a UAB alumnus, graduate of the Eastman School of Music and associate professor of piano at Utah State University.

This season’s offerings will include the UAB Piano Series with alumnus Cahill Smith and “Gospel Goes Classical” with the Alabama Symphony Orchestra, plus free recitals and concerts from faculty and students.
