Dr. Andrew (Andy) Rothstein was raised near Dayton, Ohio. His interest in optometry started with assisting in the optical lab at his local optometrist’s office. His desire to be an optometrist only grew as he learned more about the field and the impact eye care can have on patients’ lives. In pursuit of this goal, Dr. Rothstein graduated from Miami University (Ohio) in 2010 with a BA in Zoology before receiving his OD degree from The Ohio State University College of Optometry in 2014. Following graduation, Dr. Rothstein completed a UAB-affiliated residency in Hospital Based/Primary Care Optometry at the VA Medical Center in Tuscaloosa, AL. Dr. Rothstein spent the next six years at a private OD/MD office where he gained extensive experience in ocular disease management and surgical co-management.

The calling to teach led Dr. Rothstein back to UABSO in the spring of 2022, when he started as an assistant professor. Dr. Rothstein serves as a clinical attending in the Primary Care Clinic as well as in numerous specialty clinics including the PATH clinic and the UAB 1917 clinic.

Outside of work, Dr. Rothstein enjoys spending time with his wife, Rachel (also an OD), and kids, Isaiah and Emma.
