She received her Doctorate of Optometry with honors at UAB School of Optometry. Dr. Turner completed her residency in Cornea and Contact Lens and received the Dr. George Mertz Contact Lens Residency Award. After her residency, she worked in a private practice in the Birmingham area. During her 11 years in private practice, Dr. Turner enjoyed teaching 4th year externs from UAB School of Optometry and seeing a variety of patients of all ages. After almost a decade of private practice, she joined the UAB faculty as a part time clinical assistant professor while still seeing patients in private practice. During this time, Dr. Turner discovered her passion for teaching and soon joined the faculty full time as an assistant professor in July 2015.

Dr. Turner is currently the coursemaster for the Ocular Pharmacology course. Previously, she served as the coursemaster for the clinical skills and methods course and clinical management of vision problems course. She continues to teach in both of these courses. Dr. Turner is a clinical attending in the Pediatric Clinic at UAB Eye Care. Actively involved in her profession, Dr. Turner served as board member for the Alabama Optometric Association. She is also a member of the American Optometric Association and is past President of the Birmingham Area Optometric Society. She participates in InfantSEE, a public health program designed to ensure that eye care becomes a fundamental part of infant wellness care.
