BrainREAD: A Reading Intervention Study for Children
BrainREAD is recruiting children with autism and typically-developing children, ages 7-13, who have reading comprehension difficulties to participate in an MRI study that includes a free reading intervention through Lindamood-Bell Learning Processes. Participation involves two sessions each of which are broken up into two days - one day of neuropsych assessments and one day for the scan. Participants can be compensated up to $125 for the first scan and tests with an additional $125 for the follow-up scan and tests, 12 weeks later. SAVITRI Study for Depression
If you’re being treated for MDD and your current antidepressant medication(s) is not working, the SAVITRI Study might interest you. The SAVITRI Study is researching a potential MDD therapy to improve symptoms of depression, and you may be able to participate. This research study is now enrolling adults diagnosed with MDD. Those who qualify will receive the investigational medication (or placebo), study-specific medical exams, and study-specific laboratory tests at no cost. Participants in the SAVITRI Study must: be 18 to 65 years of age; have a clinical diagnosis of MDD; be currently on antidepressant medication(s); have had inadequate response to up to 5 oral antidepressant medications; and fulfill other eligibility criteria. Alzheimer’s Dementia and Agitation Clinical Study
Do you have a loved one with agitation associated with Alzheimer’s dementia? Is their agitation becoming overwhelming? Examples of some easily identifiable agitated behaviors are: restlessness, screaming, shouting, throwing things, resistiveness, constant unwarranted requests for attention or help, pacing/aimless wandering, kicking, hitting others or self, pushing people, hurting self or others, tearing things or destroying property. In this study, researchers want to find out if an investigational drug called AVP-786 is safe and effective (useful) in managing agitation in adults with Alzheimer’s dementia, when compared to a placebo. The STARS Lab lead by Dr. Caroline G. Richter is currently recruiting for the study: Socio-emotional competencies in children and adolescents with learning differences
This study seeks to examine socio-emotional constructs, such as motivation, resilience, and stigma using an assessment survey. The project’s final goal is to provide educators and parents with targeted socio-emotional intervention techniques for a more holistic perspective on student learning.
All English-speaking children from 11 to 14 years of age are eligible. Students with Specific Learning Disabilities are encouraged to participate.

Ultraviolet Light induced effects on the skin immune response- Healthy Volunteers Needed
The UAB Department of Dermatology is seeking people for a clinical study looking into ultraviolet light induced effects on the skin immune responses. This study may provide clues for the prevention of skin cancer. We are seeking 18-35 year old individuals, without a history of skin cancer, who are capable of being sunburned and who are not currently pregnant or planning to become pregnant the next 2 months.
