Walk-In/Drop-In
The UAB Career Center offers a virtual “walk-in/drop-in” service available to UAB students without an appointment. The virtual walk-in/drop-in hours are Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. on a first come, first served basis. Click the yellow box below to access the walk-in/drop-in service via Zoom.
Cancellation and No-Show Policy
for Scheduled Appointments
If you need to reschedule or cancel your appointment, please notify our office 24 hours in advance. This allows our staff to offer your appointment time to another student, who is in need of our services. Failure to cancel your appointment within 24 hours, more than once, will result in losing your appointment privileges for the semester; however, you may still utilize our drop-in services.

(Why our Employers Recruit At UAB) Testimonials
“We get excited each year with classes starting and seeing new faces on campus. With that we hope to enhance a few of them with joining our team. Building relationships with them, showing them the great experiences that they can be involved with, while they are here on campus. Growing their life skills, while learning some trades that they can carry along with them, helping with their development. Being part of the UAB Campus Dining family. “ Richard Ellison Campus Dining/ Sodexo Services
“We recruit at UAB because the caliber of students at UAB enables us to improve the talent level of our applicant pools. Connecting you with UAB talent is our goal. Unfortunately there are some entities that do not operate with the best interest of our students in mind and therefore, like all career centers, we have policies for recruiting on campus.
The UAB Career Center at The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) is committed to do all that we can to ensure that our services are preparing students for the workforce or their desired career path.
We cannot guarantee our services, but we do hold the right to manage our employment database in a manner that is in the best interest of our students. The guidelines below have been developed to protect UAB students and we reserve the right to modify or change our business practices in any situation that may warrant a change.
HIRING GUIDELINES
General Policy:
UAB Career Center reserves the right to remove postings or opportunities that do not comply with our policies or are otherwise determined to be misleading or fraudulently posted.
Third-Party Recruiters:
Agreement that the agency, organization, or individual is a third-party recruiter as defined in the NACE Principles for Third Party Recruiters. Third Party Recruiters have access to HireABlazer with the following conditions:
- The client must disclose to UAB Career Center which organization the posted position(s) are with and UAB Career Center maintains the right to verify this information. Once verified, UAB Career Center will not disclose this information to the UAB student applicants.
- Under no circumstances can student information be disclosed. It cannot be sold or provided to other entities outside of the client for whom the résumés are designated.
- Third party recruiters who directly charge candidates being referred for the position(s) are prohibited from using our services.
Note Taking Positions:
There is a rise in companies who pay students to upload their course notes. The positions fall under a variety of titles and responsibilities. UAB Career Center will not allow these positions to be posted in our career management database in any manner, as these services are counterproductive to the policies of our academic community. The UAB Academic Honor Code can be viewed at https://www.uab.edu/students/academics/honor-code.
Career Fairs/Recruitment Events:
Attendance at UAB Career Fairs and other recruitment events will be limited to a small number of agencies, organizations, or individuals as determined by UAB Career Center. These decisions will always be made with the students’ best interest in mind.
Recruiters who register to recruit on UAB campus in any fashion are generally accepted on a first come/first serve basis. However, we reserve the right to make exceptions when it is in the best interest of the students.
The third-party recruiters that are permitted to participate in any Career Center recruitment events must represent employers who have authorized them and must disclose, to UAB Career Center, the names of the represented employers.
Prohibited Job Postings
- All positions that would employ students for a private individual (i.e. babysitter, tutor, caretaker, etc.).
- Non-degreed student jobs that are compensated only by commission, including independent contractor positions (i.e. that may require the individual to bear product expenses, be responsible for income taxes, and may not guarantee worker's compensation or unemployment insurance.)

We also have developed resources for you to use as you conduct recruiting and other workforce planning initiatives.
