Arthur (Peiyao) Wang is a composer, music technologist, and educator whose work spans concert music, electronic music, jazz, film, dance, and interactive media. He serves as Assistant Professor of Music Technology at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, where he teaches courses in computer music, recording technology, music production, and audio engineering.
Wang’s music has been performed by ensembles including the Jasper String Quartet, American Modern Ensemble, Eastman Jazz Ensemble, Eastman Jazz Lab Band, Mansfield Symphony Orchestra, Michigan State University Symphony Orchestra and Wind Symphony, and Hong Kong Philharmonia String Quartet. His work spans orchestral and chamber music, jazz, and music for wind ensemble.
Beyond the concert hall, Wang’s creative practice encompasses film, dance, virtual reality, animation, installation, and electroacoustic music. He is the composer for the award-winning VR game ZONG, creating original music for its narrative and interactive environments; the project has received awards and selections at international film and VR festivals in Europe, Asia, and the United States. His interdisciplinary work TWO CHAIRS, commissioned by contemporary choreographer Jie Hao, premiered at Theaterforum Kreuzberg in Berlin as part of the Against The Grain Performance Festival. Other projects include The Path to the Paradise, a 45-minute interdisciplinary work commissioned by BIODANCE and premiered at Rochester’s Memorial Art Gallery.
Wang was a finalist for the ASCAP Morton Gould Young Composer Awards in 2022 and 2025 and has received recognition from ASMAC, the Global Music Awards, and international composition and film-music competitions. In 2026, he joined the Telly Awards Judging Council, evaluating submitted work in video and media. He is also a voting member of the World Soundtrack Academy and a member of ASCAP and ASMAC.
As an educator, Wang has mentored students who have been admitted to graduate programs in composition and film scoring at institutions including the University of Southern California, New York University, the Eastman School of Music, Peabody Conservatory, California Institute of the Arts, the University of Miami, and New England Conservatory.
Wang holds a Master of Music in Music Composition from Michigan State University and a Master of Music in Contemporary Media and Film Composition from the Eastman School of Music. His additional studies have included jazz arranging and composition with Bill Dobbins and private composition studies with Richard Danielpour and Dave Rivello. He earned his Bachelor of Arts in Musicology (Composition) from the Communication University of China.
