I grew up mostly in Natchitoches, LA (bonus points if you can pronounce it correctly), with some early stops in New Hampshire and Indiana. After graduating from LSU, I hopped across the pond to spend a very enlightening year at the LSE, at a time when I was still deciding between pursuing philosophy and practical policy work. After graduating from the LSE, I decided to try out policy work, and so I worked as an economic policy analyst for the Louisiana Department of Revenue. In 2014, I started graduate school at UNC to pursue a PhD in philosophy, which I earned in 2020. Before landing at UAB, I was a postdoctoral fellow at Dartmouth College with the Political Economy Project.
I have two main research projects. One works through ethical issues arising from the fact that the way in which we structure our social and political institutions impacts health and well-being. Right now, I am spending most of my time thinking about access to employment, childhood trauma, and their effects on public health.
My other main research project focuses on the history of the concept of justice in moral and political philosophy. Much of my work to this point has focused on David Hume’s theory of justice, which I think is underappreciated. But my interests in justice span the Western canon.
