About the Program

Is it really possible to find a cure for cancer, ALS, dementia, and countless other diseases? We believe so, and we want to train biostatisticians like you to make it happen. Earning a doctorate in biostatistics can prepare you for a career in government, research, education, and industry where you can work on those types of cures.

What's the first step in reaching these great achievements? In our program, it's the 37-hour, self-paced online course called Overview of Public Health. In fact, you'll be required to complete it by the end of your second semester in order to continue. After that, you'll learn about a wide range of topics such as research ethics, scientific integrity, applied statistics, and theory of statistics. In addition, you'll begin to conduct your dissertation research. Finally, a dissertation committee will administer an oral exam, where you'll be required to present and defend your dissertation as well as demonstrate a comprehensive knowledge of your field.
