About the Program

A knowledge of our past is critical to understanding both our present and future. At UAB, we want to teach you how to collect, document, and convey historical data so you can build a foundation for success in business, medical, political, and other job tracks.

In fact, a history degree can do wonders for your career. Because not only will we teach you about important time periods, patterns, and landmarks, we'll show you how those historical lessons apply today. Your education will extend beyond the classroom with experiences such as reenactments, study-away opportunities, and internships at more than 20 museums and historical venues around Birmingham. You can also join the history honors program or add a media studies minor to create films or documentaries with a historic focus. By the time you graduate, you should have communication, critical thinking, and analytical skills that are highly valued in today's work environment.
