  • Blazer Build It Competition
  • Halloween
  • Taco Bar Lunch
  • Door Decoration Competition
  • Donut Breakfast

From the Gurney Derby and Green and Gold Games to a Blaze the Night Block Party, UAB packs its annual Homecoming week full of fun for students and employees alike. With a “Y2Blaze” theme, UAB Homecoming Week 2023 is Oct. 29-Nov. 4. The student-selected theme is a throwback to the year 2000 and the early “aughts,” filled with a retro nostalgic vibe.

A highlight of the week is the new Blazer Build It competition — a revamp of the traditional building-decoration contest — Tuesday, Oct. 31. Following tradition, first year dental students participate in the spirited competition among schools, which has been transformed for 2023.

The UAB Homecoming Parade – Friday, Nov. 3 – runs from 14th Street South, traveling down 10th Avenue South to 18th Street South, then left onto University Boulevard and back to 14th Street South. The SOD is typically represented in the parade by staff or students.

The School of Dentistry has added a few of its own activities to celebrate the week and enhance Blazer spirit among dental students, residents, and employees.

Included are gatherings where dental students, dental assisting students, and residents can enjoy cupcakes – Monday, Oct. 30 – and a mid-week taco bar lunch. Since Oct. 31 falls on Tuesday, the school will host a Halloween Costume Contest for students and employees, with prizes awarded. Students will judge a Door Decoration Competition – Thursday, Nov. 2 – and employees and students will mark the week’s end – Friday, Nov. 3 – with a coffee and donuts gathering.

The UAB Football annual Homecoming game against Florida Atlantic concludes the week at 2 p.m. Nov. 4 at Protective Stadium.
