A reception was held in PCAMS on Thursday, August 17, to celebrate both cardiologists for their extraordinary contributions to echocardiography.

Rachael Lee, MD (Assistant Professor, Infectious Diseases) and Eddie Mathews, MD (Assistant Professor, Hospital Medicine) have led a novel team-based intervention to evaluate outpatient parenteral antimicrobial therapy (OPAT) for people who use IV drugs hospitalized with serious infections. Utilizing a risk assessment tool created by Drs. Peter Lane and Cayce Paddock (Addiction Medicine), they have been able to decrease average LOS from 42 days to 18 days.

Kenneth Saag, MD, MSc (Professor, Clinical Immunology and Rheumatology) has co-authored a consensus statement to explain discordance between published rheumatology guidelines and the American College of Physicians’ clinical practice guidelines in the treatment of gout.

Amy Dean (Administrative Associate, Gerontology, Geriatrics, and Palliative Care) has been elected to serve a second year as Secretary for the UAB Staff Council Executive Committee.
