German Henostroza, MD, with Matt Gravett, MD in Lima, PeruGerman Henostroza, MD, with Matt Gravett, MD in Lima, PeruThe Department of Medicine shined a spotlight on health matters around the world in its 3rd Annual Global Health Day on Wednesday. Not only did we learn how the crisis in Syria is impacting global health from Dr. Majd Isreb, chairman of the Syrian American Medical Society Foundation, we also enjoyed a great poster session from residents in the Global Health Track, celebrating the outstanding training our residents receive in international settings thanks to the leadership of Martin Rodriguez, MD (Professor, Infectious Diseases).

More Good News for May 17, 2017

The Department of Medicine congratulates Mona Fouad, MD, MPH, and the Arts in Medicine Diversity Committee for creating dynamic displays for the Margaret Cameron Spain Auditorium. The eight wall panels in the lobby and auditorium feature the story of UAB’s growing diversity and global impact throughout the decades.

Steven Rowe, MD (Professor, Pulmonary, Allergy, and Critical Care) was part of the international leadership team for a Phase III Trial that has demonstrated a new drug combination for Cystic Fibrosis patients, Tezacaftor and Ivacaftor, improves lung function without adverse side effects.

Lauren Shea, MD (PGY-3) has been published in Clinical Case Reports. Her research “Concomitant imatinib and ibrutinib in a patient with CML and CLL” was conducted with mentor Randall Davis, MD (Professor, Hematology and Oncology).

Next Week at Medical Grand Rounds: Eduardo Salas, PhD, Professor and Chair of the Department of Psychiatry at Rice University will present, "What Does It Take to Save Lives? The Science of Teamwork” at noon on Wednesday, May 24, in Margaret Cameron Spain Auditorium.
