More than 20 faculty and staff presented the annual State of the Department of Medicine on Wednesday. The address focused on our five strategic priorities, with success stories from each area: Patient Care, Education, Research, Sustainability, and Culture. The session was recorded for those unable to attend; we will share a link when it’s posted to the web site. View the slides here.

Kudos to two DOM faculty who have been published in the New England Journal of Medicine:

  • Turner Overton, MD, demonstrated that the administration of an HIV-specific antibody is safe, well-tolerated, and modestly delayed the return of HIV viral rebound in HIV-1 infected individuals after they stopped receiving antiretroviral therapy.
  • Mel Wilcox, MD, senior-authored an article on acute pancreatitis, reviewing recent changes in its management as well as common misunderstandings and areas of ongoing controversy.

The UAB Comprehensive Cancer Center is boldly undertaking the mission to end cancer as a public health problem by 2050. Watch the video here.

The Tinsley Harrison Internal Medicine Residency Program is taking great care of our patients according to the most recent Press Ganey report, with 4 of 6 resident services ranked in the 99th percentile for quality.
