On Tuesday, Nicole Lohr, M.D., Ph.D., FACC, assumed her new roles as the Director of the Division of Cardiovascular Disease and the Comprehensive Cardiovascular Center, and Co-Director of the UAB Medicine Cardiovascular Institute.

The Kirklin Clinic Endoscopy Team will participate in the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy Colonoscopy AI Program to address colorectal cancer disparities and better detect possible adenomas during colonoscopies.

Fernando Ovalle, M.D., (Professor and Director, Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism) is leading a trial to evaluate a new drug developed to stop the immune system from attacking insulin-producing cells.

Grant Williams, M.D., MSPH, (Associate Professor, Hematology and Oncology) was named president-elect for the International Society of Geriatric Oncology to promote global education, clinical practice, research, and partnerships in the field of geriatric oncology.

William Geisler, M.D., MPH, (Professor, Infectious Diseases) will work to determine biomarkers that are useful for predicting Chlamydia trachomatis infections, factors that affect acceptability of a vaccine, and knowledge to broaden mentorship.

Drs. Amit Gaggar and Anath Shalev received Bill L. Harbert Institute for Innovation and Entrepreneurship Awards in recognition of their scientific discovery in pulmonary and diabetes solutions. Congrats, to you both!

Navin Nanda, M.D., (Distinguished Professor, Cardiovascular Disease) earned the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Lipid Association of India for pioneering studies in the fields of lipids, atherosclerosis and diabetes mellitus.
