After heart attack injury, bioactive molecules play an essential signaling role to clear inflammation and help repair heart muscle, but how this resolution occurs has been not been well understood. Dr. Ganesh Halade (Associate Professor, Cardiovascular Disease) and colleagues have reported the results of their investigation of this process which describe an integrative role of the immune receptor ALX/FPR2 as a primary target to manage cardiometabolic health, the inflammation-resolution processes and cardiorenal syndrome in aging. Congrats on this exciting science!

If you want to know just how far we've come in cancer treatment at UAB, look no further than our own Pathology Department. Dr. Adam Wende was diagnosed with CML five years ago. That's when he met Dr. Ravi Bhatia (Professor and Director, Hematology and Oncology) who has helped him beat his cancer into remission with a surprisingly simple daily oral medication. Now, Dr. Wende is expressing his gratitude with his goal to raise $20,000 for blood cancer research. He is a member of a Leukemia & Lymphoma Society fundraising running team for the 2020 London Marathon next spring!
