The Department of Medicine partnered with UAB Heersink School Medicine and the Office for Diversity and Inclusion to observe Women's History Month. We highlight the all-female team of cardiologists who bridge heart health and cancer care in the emerging specialty of cardio-oncology. Directed by Dr. Carrie Lenneman, the team identifies and treats cardiac side effects caused by cancer treatment. The program recently received Gold Standard accreditation from the International Society of Cardio-Oncology. Congratulations to this group of women medical professionals for making medical history all year long!

More Good News for March 25, 2022

The Tinsley Harrison Internal Medicine Residency Program welcomed 43 residents and trainees on Match Day 2022. 37 Categorical, 2 ABIM research pathway, and 4 Med-Peds trainees from 21 medical schools will join UAB this summer.

Gabrielle Rocque, M.D., (Associate Professor, Hematology and Oncology) was named the 2021 Researcher of the Year by the American Cancer Society for her work bring patients’ voices to decision-making in cancer care.

James Kobie, Ph.D., (Associate Professor, Infectious Diseases) and colleagues investigated a monoclonal antibody that could act as a universal coronavirus therapy against the COVID-19 virus, variants, and other common SARS viruses.

Rachael Lee, M.D., (Associate Professor, Infectious Diseases) was appointed to the American College of Physicians 2022-2023 Scientific Medical Policy Committee to aid in the development of policies and programs that benefit the public and the profession of medicine.

Medicine-Pediatrics Chief Medical Resident Joe Bradsher, M.D., was selected to join the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society in recognition of his high educational achievement, gifted teaching, advocacy for the development of leadership in academics, and service to others.

Dr. Mona Fouad, Professor and Director of the UAB Division of Preventive Medicine will join UAB faculty Drs. Bruce Korf and Beth Lewis to present The All of Us Research Program: Opportunities for UAB Investigators at noon on Wednesday, March 30, via Zoom.
