Biography

Dr. Estrada received his D.V.M. and his M.Sc. degrees at the National University of Colombia. At North Carolina State University, he obtained his Ph.D. and completed his post-doctoral fellowship on embryology and animal biotechnology.

Dr. Estrada's research work has been focused on animal biotechnology, particularly on reproduction and genetics. He has generated more than 20 pig lines with genetic modifications (knock-out, transgenic) by somatic cell nuclear transfer (SCNT-cloning), including some lines with multiple genetic modifications.

Before moving to UAB as an assistant professor, Dr. Estrada worked at NCSU on embryo manipulation of mice, cattle and swine, prior to joining Indiana University to work on SCNT to produce pigs for research in xenotransplantation.
