BIRMINGHAM, AL — Nathan Redmond, a sophomore at the School of Dentistry at UAB, was recently re-appointed to the national position of regional legislative coordinator by the American Student Dental Association's Board of Trustees.

Redmond was chosen from a competitive field of regional candidates. As a regional representative, he will coordinate the political activities of the "Quad Region," which includes 24 dental schools. As coordinator, he and others will work with national and state legislators, lobbying for dental student affairs.

Redmond recently participated in the 3rd annual American Dental Education Association/ASDA Dental Student Lobby Day on Capitol Hill. During Lobby Day, more than 80 dental students representing 26 dental schools met with 100 congressional offices. The students advocated broadening student loan interest deduction, securing a tax credit for providers who establish practices in under served areas and increasing federal support for loan repayment programs.

Redmond, a native of Trussville, Alabama, received a bachelor of science in chemical engineering in 1998 from the University of Alabama. He is expected to graduate from the School of Dentistry in 2002.
