Ja’Taune Bosby of Chicago, Ill., was crowned Miss UAB 2010 and awarded a $1,900 scholarship Thursday, Oct. 8, at the University of Alabama at Birmingham’s (UAB) scholarship pageant at the Alys Stephens Center.

 

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Ja'Taune Bosby of Chicago, Ill., was crowned Miss UAB 2010 and awarded a $1,900 scholarship Thursday, Oct. 8, at the University of Alabama at Birmingham's (UAB) scholarship pageant at the Alys Stephens Center. Bosby will represent UAB at the Miss Alabama pageant in 2010.

Nineteen contestants competed in five categories: interview, talent, eveningwear, swimsuit and onstage question.

Bosby, a senior majoring in political science, is the daughter of Tina DeNard.

First runner-up was Elisabeth Chramer of Trussville, daughter of Paul and Valerie Chramer. A freshman majoring in engineering, Chramer was awarded a $750 scholarship and the Community Service Award, with a $200 scholarship prize.

Second runner-up was Emily Latta of Dothan, daughter of Emory Latta and Wilma Van de Perre. Latta, a junior majoring in biology, was awarded a $650 scholarship.

Third runner-up was Claire O'Rear of Jasper, daughter of Griff O'Rear and Suzanne Snow. O'Rear, a graduate student, was awarded a $550 scholarship and the Talent Award, with a $200 scholarship prize, for her ballet en pointe performance.

To qualify to participate in the pageant, the young women must be between the ages of 17-24, a UAB student with a minimum grade point average of 2.5 and a resident of Alabama for at least six months.
