BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Marie Sutton and Nicole Wyatt have joined Media Relations in the UAB Office of Public Relations and Marketing, as media specialists responsible for working with the news media and producing stories for UAB's website.

Sutton, a former reporter with the Birmingham News, will cover a variety of beats in the College of Arts and Sciences, including the School of Education, and many activities in Student Affairs. Sutton, a Birmingham native, is a Stillman College alumnus.

Wyatt, a former reporter and anchor for CBS 42, will cover the School of Public Health and topics within the School of Medicine, including the Division of Infectious Diseases and the UAB Center for AIDS Research. Wyatt, who grew up in Pittsburgh, Pa., graduated from the University of Alabama.

"While Sutton and Wyatt are filling existing positions, they're charged with new methods of communications," said Clinton Colmenares, director of Media Relations. "We're in a new day of media relations; our team still liaisons with mainstream reporters, but we are our own storytellers. We searched very carefully for candidates with experience in both journalism and using social media, such as blogging and tweeting. We're very happy to have Marie and Nicole as part of our UAB team."
