rep blazer express 550pxIn response to the global COVID-19 outbreak, UAB Transportation has been taking extra steps to clean and disinfect Blazer Express buses. Regular protocol includes wiping down and disinfecting interior seating and handrails at the end of each day, with interiors mopped and wiped down with antibacterial cleaning supplies every weekend.

An enhanced cleaning protocol will be adopted as of the end of this week, said Andre Davis, director of UAB Transportation. In addition to the regular protocol, Blazer Express drivers will now wipe down all handrails and handles hourly while the bus is in service. Hand sanitizer will be placed on each vehicle for passenger use, and signage will remind passengers of good hygiene practices. In addition, disinfectant spray will be available on every vehicle to be used as needed.

“We do not anticipate a change in delivery of service” while implementing these measures, Davis said. “With the requirement to wipe down handrails and handles each hour, small delays — no more than 10 minutes — may occur.”

Some Blazer Express routes suspended

Effective midnight March 13th, UAB Transportation is suspending several Blazer Express routes until further notice. This decision is being made to best allocate resources as UAB moves to remote teaching for the coming weeks.

The following routes are suspended until further notice:

  • Gold
  • North Green
  • South Green
  • Purple
