There is an ongoing psychedelic clinical research study evaluating the safety and efficacy of an intranasal study drug for patients with treatment resistant depression.

To qualify patients need to be 18-75 years of age, failed to respond to an adequate dose & duration of at least 2 medicines for depression. If currently taking antidepressants, willing and able to discontinue.

If eligible, study participants will be expected to abstain from illicit drugs for the duration of the trial & attend all study visits & follow instructions from the study doctor. Study examinations will be at no cost to you.

UAB is looking for participants for a study investigating the effects of a new study medication on symptoms of fibromyalgia. We are looking for women aged 25-65 who are diagnosed with fibromyalgia OR are experiencing chronic widespread bodily pain. Participants will come to UAB for 7 study visits over a 3-month period. Participants will be compensated for completing all study visits.

The purpose of this study is to evaluate if COPD is caused by exposure to heavy metals. This study will include a medical history review, a brief physical examination, spirometry, exhaled breath condensate, urine sample, blood collection, and a bronchoscopy/bronchoalveolar lavage procedure. Those who qualify will receive compensation for their time. Participation is voluntary. You or your child must be a male or female aged 6 to 17 years of age with an underlying medical condition, positive for COVID-19, and experiencing symptoms. Are you a HIV negative, generally healthy adult between the ages of 18-55?
The Alabama Vaccine Research Clinic at UAB are seeking volunteers for a phase 1 HIV prevention study. This study is to evaluate the safety and immunogenicity of synthetic DNAs encoding in adults without HIV. This trial is in search of healthy HIV negative adults between the ages of 18-55. Procedures will include blood draws and injections of study vaccine, as well as the collection of white blood cells. White blood cells will be collected by a procedure called leukapheresis. Participants will be compensated for their efforts in this study.

We are currently seeking Gulf War Veterans to participate in a brain imaging research study. Healthy Gulf War Veterans and Veterans with chronic health problems are invited to participate. Participation involves 1-2 visits to UAB for 2.5 hours total. Participants undergo MRI brain scan, blood draw, and complete several questionnaires. The Alabama Vaccine Research Clinic at UAB are seeking volunteers for a phase 1 HIV prevention study. This study tests the body’s immune system response to, a protein similar to what is found in HIV. The immune response prepares the body to recognize the same protein in HIV and fight the virus if a person is exposed to HIV in the future. Participants will be compensated over $750 for their efforts.

The Targeted Exercise for African Americans with Multiple Sclerosis (TEAAMS) study will examine whether a 16-week home-based, racially-tailored exercise training program can provide improvements in walking dysfunction, symptoms, and quality of life among Black/African Americans with MS who live in rural communities in the Southeastern US. Eligible participants must be 18-64 years old, diagnosed with MS, self-identify as Black or African American, and live in the Southeastern US. Get involved in a research study that aims to understand how chronic pain from knee osteoarthritis may change learning. We are looking for adults aged 40-65 with knee pain due to osteoarthritis who are willing to have their brains scanned during a learning procedure. The commitment to this study will last approximately 2 hours and include one telephone screen and one visit to UAB where you will fill out questionnaires and have your brain scanned with magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) during a learning task. If you are eligible to participate in this study, you will receive up to $50. We are also recruiting healthy controls with no chronic pain. We are looking for Healthy Controls to participate in a study to examine racial differences in the experience of chronic low back pain. To participate in this study, you must have no chronic pain, between the ages 30-85 years old, receive medical services at UAB, no serious medical conditions and be able to attend two testing sessions one week apart. Participants will receive up to $400 for completing the study. You may not be eligible to participate if you have significant health problems or are taking certain medications. The UAB Neuroinflammation, Pain and Fatigue Lab is looking for individuals to take a low dose of naltrexone or a placebo for 6 months. Every participant will receive the drug at some point during the study. You will be asked to come in for a screening session; to complete a daily symptom questionnaire and to provide blood samples during the 6-month period. If eligible, you will be compensated up to $425. Participants must: Have moderate to severe chronic fatigue (for at least 12 months); Not be pregnant or currently planning to become pregnant; Be without any significant medical conditions such as heart disease; and Not currently using opioid medications.
