The Alabama Vaccine Research Clinic at UAB are seeking volunteers for a phase 1 HIV prevention study. This study tests the body’s immune system response to, a protein similar to what is found in HIV. The immune response prepares the body to recognize the same protein in HIV and fight the virus if a person is exposed to HIV in the future. Participants will be compensated over $750 for their efforts.

If you are 18 or older with a BMI of 35 or greater, a history of calcium oxalate kidney stones, and are desiring to lose weight, you may be eligible to participate in a research study. The goal of this study is to better understand calcium oxalate kidney stone disease and how weight loss might impact urinary oxalate and kidney stone risk. The study requires eating a study diet for 5 days with a one-day long visit both before and after weight loss, participating in a 14-week long weight loss program with the aid of Optifast VLCD® shakes, collecting 24-hr urines, blood samples, and stool samples. Participants will have the opportunity to be compensated up to $920 for participation in the program over the 6 -8-month participation time frame. The University of Alabama at Birmingham, Department of Family and Community Medicine, is conducting a 12-month research study to test the effectiveness of a diabetes management intervention. The Targeted Exercise for African Americans with Multiple Sclerosis (TEAAMS) study will examine whether a 16-week home-based, racially-tailored exercise training program can provide improvements in walking dysfunction, symptoms, and quality of life among Black/African Americans with MS who live in rural communities in the Southeastern US. Eligible participants must be 18-64 years old, diagnosed with MS, self-identify as Black or African American, and live in the Southeastern US. Do you have Type 2 Diabetes? Are you 18 years or older? Not currently taking Insulin? Are you currently being treated with stable doses of daily or weekly GLP-1 receptor agonist? This 52 week research study is seeking qualified participants to help compare the efficacy and safety of once weekly IcoSema and once weekly semaglutide. Qualified participants will receive study drug free of charge and may be compensated for time and travel. Clinical trial evaluating a novel, non-invasive radiation treatment for ventricular tachycardia refractory to medication and catheter ablation The UAB Departments of Radiation Oncology and Cardiology are looking for patients with ventricular tachycardia (VT) not controlled by medications and catheter ablation. The trial will allow patients suffering from VT despite standard of care regimens to undergo non-invasive cardiac radioablation (CRA; a type of stereotactic body radiotherapy) to the area of the heart responsible for their symptoms. Stereotactic body radiotherapy is delivered with a device called the linear accelerator, which is primarily used to treat patients with cancer. UAB is one of the first centers in the U.S. to obtain a Food and Drug Administration (FDA) investigational device exemption for use of the linear accelerator in this capacity on a phase I/II trial.
