The purpose of this study is to help research scientists and physicians gain a better understanding of how the brain works as well as understand why some people respond well to drug treatment for mental disorders and why others do not. Participation involves 5 study visits over the course of 16 weeks with MRI scans of the brain, questionnaires and assessments related to daily and psychiatric functioning, and an optional blood sample. Healthy and obese African American adults ages 25 to 45 years old are needed to study the effect of the time of day of salt intake on changes in blood pressure during the day. BAPS is a new Breast Cancer Recovery study opening at the O’Neal Comprehensive Cancer Center. As part of our focus on healthy recovery from cancer and its treatment, we try to offer programs that will support women in their recovery. We are studying a new program that is designed to help women find ways to be active and productive in all areas of life including managing work and employment, taking care of their home and family, and doing healthy activities such as exercise, leisure, hobbies, and socializing. The purpose of the Feed Me Study is to examine the naturally occurring bacteria in the gut of women and the impact these bacteria may have on weight loss. We are looking for women who are non-Hispanic black or non-Hispanic white. Generally healthy ages 19-65 and currently overweight. Participation involves eating study-provided meals only for 4 weeks, completing questionnaires, basic body measurements, and providing stool and blood samples. We want to pay people who identify as African Americans to help us see if stress and other lifestyle factors can protect their mental health and their brain health. This knowledge is especially important to understand as people face difficult situations and might be at risk for Alzheimer’s disease. All information collected will be kept confidential. UAB Department of Nutrition Sciences is conducting a nutrition study looking at the effects of diet in adults with type 2 diabetes, high blood sugar, for less than 5 years. You may qualify if you are between the ages of 35-65, are African American or European American, are not using insulin, and are willing to travel to UAB for testing visits. Qualified participants will receive weekly groceries, personal health information, group support sessions with a Registered Dietitian, and monetary compensation for your time. If you have major depressive disorder (MDD) and are in a current depressive episode, we invite you to learn about a research study of an investigational drug that is taken with your current antidepressant medication. In this study, researchers will evaluate the safety and efficacy of the investigational drug as an add on therapy to your current antidepressant medication. To prequalify for this study you must be 18 to 65 years of age, have been diagnosed with recurrent MDD, be in a current major depressive episode for at least the last 8 weeks, and not experiencing a satisfactory improvement in your symptoms of depression with your current treatment. The ROME study is designed to discover how exercise affects the gut microbiome and fatigue in breast cancer survivors. This study includes 10 weeks of supervised, individual exercise sessions with exercise specialists. The study is funded by the National Cancer Institute. Participants must be between the ages of 18 and 70 with a history of stage I, II or III breast cancer within the last five years. The wisdom Study wants to apply modern medical science to breast cancer screening by determining if personalized screening is better than annual mammography and learning how to improve detection while reducing over-diagnosis and false-positive readings. Women ages 40-74, with no history of breast cancer or ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS), are asked to join. Postmenopausal women 55 years of age or older with vaginal atrophy needed. Participants must be willing to use vaginal estrogen cream for 8 weeks. You may be eligible to participate in a research study about the effects of exercise and Metoprolol, a blood pressure pill, on a protein in your blood. This protein is related to heart disease.
