TRANSCEND-T2D-2 is a clinical research study for people with type 2 diabetes. This study will test if an investigational medicine (the medicine being studied) can help with blood glucose (sugar) and weight management compared with an existing treatment for type 2 diabetes. You may be able to join the research study if you are aged 18 years or older, have type 2 diabetes, have been taking 1500mg or more of metformin each day for at least 3 months (with or without SGLT2i), have a BMI of 25 or more, have HbA1c levels of 7.0% to 10.5%. About the Clinical Trial:

The purpose of this NIH funded trial is to examine the effects of three different diabetes treatments to determine if they improve night-time blood sugars.

This Trial Involves:

  • A screening visit that includes a blood draw, urine test and physical exam
  • Treatment with Metformin, Insulin Glargine (long-acting insulin) or the experimental drug Dorzagliatin which is FDA-approved for research, for up to 8 weeks
  • 2-4 inpatient visits/ including two overnight stays at the Clinical Research Unit at 15th floor of Jefferson Tower.

All visits to be completed within a three-month period. Study-related tests and procedures are provided free of charge. Participants will be compensated up to $2,500 for study completion. All Participants must be Diagnosed with type 2 DM and Not on any type of insulin therapy.

The University of Alabama at Birmingham, Department of Family and Community Medicine, is conducting a 12-month research study to test the effectiveness of a diabetes management intervention. By alternating high-salt and low-salt diets, a new clinical trial aims to find out how common salt sensitivity of blood pressure is in the general population. The researchers are also exploring whether the immune system plays a role.

Adults with Type 2 Diabetes needed for a study If you are between the ages of 18 -89 yrs and have type 2 diabetes you may be eligible to participate in a study exploring the reason why individuals who have diabetes have an increased risk of forming calcium oxalate kidney stones. Individuals who are obese, overweight, or normal weight are all welcome to the study. Participation involves eating study-provided meals for 4 days, providing urine and blood samples. We are looking for adults with type 2 diabetes for a research study to see if eating large amounts of whole fruit can improve your blood sugar and reduce your need for diabetes medications. You may be eligible if you are 20-65 years old, overweight (BMI 27-45), diagnosed with type 2 diabetes within the last 6 years, and are not taking insulin. Participants will be provided with meals for 12 weeks, a high-speed Vita-Mix blender, and $1,375 for completing the study. We are looking for adults with type 2 diabetes for an exciting research study to see whether intermittent fasting and/or using light therapy can improve your blood sugar, improve your overall health, and reset your body clock. Participants will either eat early in the day, graze throughout the day, and/or use a special light therapy box or glasses. You may be eligible if you have type 2 diabetes, are 30-80 years old, are not taking insulin, and usually wake up between 5:00 and 9:00 am. The main part of the study lasts 16 weeks and involves two overnight tests in our clinic (which can be done on weekends, if preferred). Participants will receive $2400 for completing the study.

We are seeking volunteers with Type 2 Diabetes for a weight loss research study looking at the role of dietary protein in weight loss and the remission of type 2 diabetes. The study will last approximately 12 months. Participants will participate in a 16 week State of Slim group weight loss program and a 36 week State of Slim Next Steps weight loss maintenance program, with body composition scans and lab work at no charge. Participants will receive monetary stipends of $300 to reimburse for time and travel to study classes and study visits. You may qualify for this weight loss research study if you are nonvegetarian, 18 years of age or older, has Type 2 Diabetes diagnosed within the last 6 years, are overweight or obese with a BMI greater than or equal to 27. The UAB Division of Rheumatology and Immunology is conducting a study to research the effects of Rheumatoid Arthritis on muscle strength and insulin. To qualify, you must be between the ages of 35 and 65, not be diagnosed with diabetes or any other illness that may impair evaluation of study outcomes, and do not engage in a strength training program or vigorous exercise. All participants will be required to come to UAB for testing on 3 or more occasions and qualified RA participants will receive a 15-week regimen of the study drug.
