Dr. Roman Johnson, a T32 CPCTP pre-doctoral fellow, has been awarded a post-doctoral fellowship in the Cancer Prevention and Education program of the Department of Social and Behavioral Sciences of the T.H. Chan School of Public Health at Harvard. Dr. Johnson will begin his fellowship in September 2020.

Michael Behring, PhD, recently received two awards from the National Institute of Health and the UAB Nutrition and Obesity Research Center. The most recent award from NIH, which is a loan repayment grant which begins in November 2020, was for his extramural clinical research on the topic of the role of the tumor suppressor TP53 in obesity-related colorectal cancer. In May 2020, Dr. Behring received UAB NORC pilot funding in the amount of $20,000 for his study of adipokines, insulin and body composition in colorectal cancer. With this award, he will be working with Drs. Barbara Gower and Amy Goss with the NORC’s Metabolism Core.

In March 2020, Karina Halilova, MD, MPD, received the Palliative Research Enhancement Project (PREP) Nutrition Award from the UAB Palliative and Supportive Care Center for her pilot grant titled, “Elucidating strategies to elicit oncologists’ recommendation to promote healthy eating behaviors among cancer survivors.”

In January 2020, Jennifer Bail, PhD, RN, began a tenure-track assistant professor position at the College of Nursing at the University of Alabama in Huntsville upon completion of her T32 CPCTP post-doctoral fellowship.

Exciting news! Just heard that the National Alumni Society has announced the recipients of the 2018 UAB Young Alumni Rising Star Awards. Former CPCTP trainee, Dr. Michelle Cardel, is one of the five winners. She will be honored during a reception at AEIVA on Thursday, September 20, 2018 at 5:30 pm. 

Former CPCTP trainee, Dr. Cindy Blair, received a Cancer Prevention, Control, Behavior Sciences, and Population Sciences Career Development Award (K07) from the National Cancer Institute.
