About the Program

As a high school teacher, what you teach your students can impact them the rest of their lives. At UAB, we can teach the skills you need to educate our youth as they prepare to leave the nest and transition to adulthood.

In fact, we've specifically designed this program to help prepare you to teach diverse groups of students from grades six through twelve. If you already have your Class B teaching certificate, you're ready for the traditional master's. If not, no problem. You can do our alternative master's program, where we'll not only give you a solid foundation in education, but we'll put you on a path to earn your Alternative Class A teaching certificate. Once in the program, you'll take courses such as Innovative Practices in Teaching Secondary School, Curriculum Principles and Practices, the Dynamics of Educational Change, and more. Then, depending on your concentration, you'll take at least four electives. Finally, you'll be required to complete a practicum as well as an internship, giving you real-world experience before you hit the job market.
