Michael T. Kase, D.M.D., FAAMP, associate professor in the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, has been appointed a deputy editor in chief of the journal following several years of service on its editorial board. John Minh Le, D.D.S., M.D., assistant professor in oral and maxillofacial surgery, also serves as a deputy editor in chief and has held the role prior to Kase’s appointment. Kase and Le are among four faculty members worldwide holding the role.

The journal publishes research and clinical scholarship related to oral and maxillofacial pathology and continues to operate as an international academic platform while based in Ukraine. Its editorial leadership model includes multiple deputy editors in chief to support peer review, editorial oversight, and the journal’s global scope.

Kase has maintained long‑standing involvement with the journal as an author, reviewer, and editorial board member. His scholarly contributions are focused on maxillofacial prosthetics, oral oncology, and interdisciplinary care. In 2022, the School of Dentistry previously highlighted his continued engagement with the journal during the early months of the conflict in Ukraine.

“Editorial leadership carries an important responsibility,” Kase said. “This journal serves as a forum for clinicians and researchers from many countries, and sustaining rigorous peer‑reviewed scholarship has real significance, particularly when academic communities are facing extraordinary challenges.”

Le, who joined the School of Dentistry faculty in 2024, was involved with the journal during his residency and played an early role in establishing the relationship between UAB and the publication. He remains active in clinical practice, research, and scholarly publishing within oral and maxillofacial surgery.

“Participating in the editorial process allows faculty to contribute to the integrity and direction of the scientific literature,” Le said. “I’m honored to represent UAB and to work with colleagues from institutions around the world.”

The editorial appointments add to UAB School of Dentistry’s growing presence in international research, scholarly publishing, and academic leadership.
