The Kinesiology degree with a concentration in Exercise Bioenergetics prepares students for academic, industry, and research careers in the areas of clinical nutrition, sports nutrition, research in human health and disease, human performance, and aging. This multidisciplinary program combines study in exercise science, kinesiology, biochemistry, physiology, and nutrition to better understand how production and utilization of energy can be used for healthy living and exercise across the lifespan.

Coursework

Students in this concentration take courses in human anatomy, human physiology, chemistry, biochemistry, weight training, aerobics, nutrition, sports nutrition, group exercise leadership, the physiology of exercise, the principles of conditioning the athlete, and more.

  • Internships

All students pursing a concentration in exercise bioenergetics must complete a one-semester internship, typically in the second half of their senior year. The responsibility to identify an internship site lies with the student but Faculty will work one-on-one with the student to help direct them to internship sites that are best suited to their interests and career goals. For example, students in exercise bioenergetics are able to intern at sites that help prepare them for academic, industry, and research careers in the areas of clinical nutrition, sports nutrition, research in human health and disease, human performance, and aging. Examples of internship sites include:

    Hospitals

    • University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) Medical Center
    • St. Vincent’s Health System

    Research
